दीपावली या दीवाली रोशनी का त्योहार है
दीपावली का अर्थ है दीपों की पंक्ति।
दीपावली दीपों का त्योहार है।
इसे दीवाली या दीपावली भी कहते हैं।
इसे सिख, बौद्ध तथा जैन धर्म के लोग भी मनाते हैं।
दीपावली के दिन अयोध्या के राजा श्री रामचंद्र अपने चौदह वर्ष के वनवास के पश्चात लौटे थे।
श्री राम के स्वागत में अयोध्यावासियों ने घी के दीए जलाए थे।
तब से आज तक प्रति वर्ष यह पर्व हर्ष व उल्लास से मनाते हैं।
यह पर्व अक्टूबर या नवंबर महीने में पड़ता है।
दीवाली अँधेरे से रोशनी में जाने का प्रतीक है।
कई सप्ताह पूर्व ही दीपावली की तैयारियाँ आरंभ हो जाती है।
दीपावली से पहले ही घर-मोहल्ले, बाज़ार सब साफ-सुथरे व सजे-धजे नज़र आते हैं।
दीवाली भारत में एक सरकारी छुट्टी है
